Iranian Filmmaker says Mousavi was told he won
Translated for The Real News NetworkMakhmalbaf:Yesterday, twenty agents in civilian clothing attacked press offices of Mousavi‘s campaign at Gheitarieh. They broke all communication devices and attacked the campaign staff, including Mr. Kharazi and Mr Amirzadeh. They beat up the staff and when the people confronted them, they fired tear gas at the crowd. These were agents in civilian clothing! Then the agents attempted to runaway. About seven of them were captured by the people and were ke [Read more]

THE WARS OF WORDS ON
Leave these high-traffic thoroughfares, however, and things can get a bit sketchier. A few wrong turns and you may find yourself deep in Hatfield-and-McCoy territory. Entrenched enemies engage in combat over the wording of topics so obscure — Armenian historians from the first millennium, for example, or breakfast cereals — that you may wonder: so much fighting over this? But it is exactly the obscurity that makes these Wikipedia articles ripe for feuding, fighting and vandalism. A b [Read more]

Navify Adds Multimedia to
It's always good to find a site that enhances the experience of using the phenomenally popular Wikipedia to create new and useful pages for researchers and casual searchers alike.  That's what Navify is all about.  This relatively new service adds a whole slew of mutlimedia to existing Wikipedia pages by adding tabs for pictures, videos, and more. The site doesn't resemble Wikipedia at all, but functions much the same.  Simply search for any given Wikipedia page, and it will pop up in Navify comp [Read more]

Fernando Nieve's last start in the majors was nearly three years ago, on June 15, 2006. On that same date, Bernie Williams played for the Yankees and Aaron Small pitched for them. Both of them are out of baseball today, but Nieve returned to the scene by limiting the Yankees to only two runs and four hits in 62/3 innings.Teixeira tried to make the case that pitchers who are facing a team for the first time have the advantage, which might be true in Little League. But we're also talking about a [Read more]

Should Wikipedians Edit Stories For Pay?
It's that sort of reasoning that gets us ridiculous laws regarding child porn (like kids sexting eachother being charged as sex offenders). If you imagine the worst possible scum when making laws, you get stupidly over-broad laws. If a person is skilled at writing, it seems reasonable for that person to make a living at writing. It seems that there is a huge bias against people making a living, although we do celebrate the super-rich. Of course, if the guy who owns the site makes paid copy again [Read more]

Iran's Crossroads
June 13, 2009, 8:14 pm Iran's Crossroads By Nicholas Kristof Right now I desperately wish I were in Iran. It's a great story with the whiff of history. It's impossible to be sure, but Ahmadinejad's victory looks extraordinarily suspicious. If he won by that margin, he would be the most popular Iranian president ever — which he certainly isn't. And it seems exceptionally unlikely that he won in Moussavi's hometown, as the government claims. That's the problem with dictators — the [Read more]

A salute to Henry Bryant
CAMDEN(June 14):The life expectancy of a second lieutenant in combat was only about 20 minutes, said Henry L. Bryant, 86, of Quarry Hill in Camden.Advertisement Bryant arrived in France as a replacement officer in July 1944, about a month after D-Day. He was a second lieutenant in the Second Division, I Company, 38th Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army.Henry Bryant at Manlius Military School in 1940. Palladium as an Investment: Worth Considering?
Palladium is one of the lesser-known precious metals. But it has some unique features that differentiate it from the “big three”: gold, silver, and platinum. So if your goal is to have a diversified portfolio of precious metals, palladium is worth a look. But before you buy, it’s important to realize that prices are quite volatile, and they depend on industrial demand more than metals like gold. In 2001 the price of palladium peaked at over $1100 per ounce. It currently trades [Read more]

Understand Building 43 and Understand Web 3.0 - Staying Ahead of
Web 3.0 as a concept, term or notion is something I didn't particularly care to mind when it surfaced initially. Web 2.0 after all was an idea that is still new and many were still grappling with it, especially brands. Therefore I regarded Web 3.0 as nothing but as hype for those who love jargon and those who had to bring up something new to talk. Now all that can be right as well, but that isn't the point of the argument. What the people who believe in and propogate the idea of web 3.0 say is ha [Read more]

Sparring anyone?
By Robert Jackson: High quality sparring is the best method to train in boxing, Sparring is 'practice fighting' with the aim of training skills and fitness, not to determine a winner. Wikipedia couldn't have been closer to the truth with these definitions. But...in some real world boxing gyms these truths may resonate false. Many trainers, in-fact the top trainers leave out the 'practice' part and emphasize that sparring should be as close to the real thing as possible to prepare a fighter [Read more]

For me at least, the difference in atmospherics between the conservative movement and the Left in the last twenty years can be summed up in their attitudes toward what they say. Conservatives are often far less sophisticated in their argumentation and more simple-minded in their thinking than the Left. This has made many conservatives child-like in their sincerity, something which people in the arts never cease to parody. No subtlety, they say; people living in a world of black and white.
