The Lord of the Rings Edit

(1954-1955)   |   |   |   |   |   |   |   |   |   |

( fr ) The Lord of the Rings is an epic high fantasy novel by the British author J. R. R. Tolkien, and one of the most widely read books in human history. The story began as a sequel to Tolkien's earlier fantasy book The Hobbit, but soon developed into a much larger story. It was written in stages between 1937 and 1949, with much of it being written during World War II. It was originally published in three volumes in 1954 and 1955, and has since been reprinted numerous times and translated into many languages, perhaps becoming the most popular work in twentieth-century literature.

volodymyr Dislike  Although I found the movie entertaining - I must say that this is not science fiction aka speculative fiction. It has the political parallels to the real world, but no connection to science or plausibility of events and things described.
I really have a hard time understanding on why would anybody put a sci-fi tag for this....

Movie Masterpiece:
But what is so evident about these three pictures, and you can't talk about one without talking about them all, is the care and the passion that Jackson and everyone involved on the production had for telling this incredible story. The care in which they cast these iconic characters, adapted the script and brought this massive project together, breaking boundaries as they went, is true testament to Jackson and his team and been seen in every frame of this movie. And what's even more heart warming, [Read more]

I finished the Fifth Edition in 1998, and did some revisions in early 1999 at the company’s request. At last the project was done... but by that point Hero Games itself wasn’t in good shape. The Nineties hadn’t been great for roleplaying game companies in general, and by the end of the decade Hero wasn’t in a position to publish a big new edition. But in 2000, it seemed as if there might be a light at the end of the tunnel. A company called Cybergames purchased Hero Games [Read more]

Host Kelly Choi, meanwhile, seems like a reality-show producer's dream: Pretty (a former model), smart (a Columbia School of Journalism grad) and qualified (veteran host of a food-themed TV show). Also, her Asian-femaleness helps offset the overwhelmingly white-male nature of the show's contestant corps. In fact, if Choi hadn't been on TV for years, I'd suspect that Bravo created her in some kind of reality-show-host laboratory. [Read more]

Turbine offers new lure: free D&D play
Free online games for casual users, such as the ones hosted by www.Pogo.com, typically get less than 1 percent of gamers to buy such extras. But Billy Pidgeon, an analyst at New York City-based Game Changer Research, said companies like Turbine that offer more complex gaming experiences for enthusiasts get a higher rate, somewhere between 7 and 12 percent. That translates into an average of up to $20 per player per month. [Read more]

E3 2009: Darksiders
HANDS-ONE3 2009: DarksidersJune 8, 2009 | 5:41 PM PSTby: Brad HilderbrandMy first experience with Darksiders was at last year's E3, when the dev team showed me a 30 minute guided demo of a church level. What I saw impressed me greatly. The dark, gothic art style, fused with a DMC style gameplay mechanic made me believe that this may be the perfect title to scratch my action gaming itch until God of War III makes its eventual debut. News on the title went dark for a while (no pun intended), but t [Read more]

Special effects are becoming more common in our daily lives, according to GenArts Chief Marketing Officer Steve Bannerman. “They are no longer simply in the domain of action/adventure and fantasy feature films, but they are key components to bringing any story to life, be it films like ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ to the typical broadcast of ‘Oprah’,” said Bannerman. A Louisville mother and daughter tread the ancient pilgrimage path
The last couple of kilometers before we reached our chosen albergue for the night, I would convince myself that there were no beds left, a situation that would force us back on the road. I would begin an imagined conversation where I begged for floor space on which to sleep. But after we arrived and had been assigned beds, I would begin to hope for a bottom bunk. And then I would become even greedier and hope there was hot water. Even when stripped to the barest of possessions and needs, there w [Read more]
