( fr ) Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is the 2007 horror/musical film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's musical of the same name. The film stars Johnny Depp in the title role, in his sixth collaboration with director Tim Burton. Helena Bonham Carter also stars as Mrs. Lovett. Johnny Depp and Tim Burton join forces again in a big-screen adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's award-winning musical thriller 'Sweeney Todd.' Sweeney Todd is a man unjustly sent to prison who vows revenge, not only for that cruel punishment, but for the devastating consequences of what happened to his wife and daughter. When he returns to reopen his barber shop, Sweeney Todd becomes the Demon Barber of Fleet Street who 'shaved the faces of gentlemen who never thereafter were heard from again.' Joining Depp is Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Lovett, Sweeney's amorous accomplice, who creates diabolical meat pies.

friedenmann Dislike  Visually splendid. And genius (as always) Johnny Depp.
But unfortunately the singing part failed (especially Alan Rickman), the only song I really liked was Epiphany, it really sounded that Depp could be a good singer if he had more training. Helena Bonham Carter wasn't bad, but for me Angela Lansbury is the real Mrs. Lovett.
I also think Burton is taking the story too seriously. Some things that were intended to be humorous instead became a bloody massacre (like final scene). Or pretty dull (Anthony!).
You’re likely to enjoy this movie, but after seeing the original version, I was quite disappointed.

flyintiger   Darker than usual in Burton's universe, blood-soaked, fiendish, filthy, cannibalistic, barbarious and hellish, it is also a surprising movie as the musical sung part transcends the characters and brings the movie to another level. It is a also an eerie depiction of London in the 19th century. And, once more, Johnny Depp is great. I sometimes wonder how would have Johnny Depp turned out in the movie industry if Burton and Depp haven't met. This is a quantum leap from 21 Jump Street!

mikavulgar   i really wanna see this movie! Depp is fantastic! lovee him!

Students bring Sweeney Tood to stage
The fact that it's Sondheim, that makes this a different show, Oquendo said. Sondheim likes to work with a lot of dissonance and difficult music. As for his students, Oquendo said, I want them to experience the darkness that the music can bring and realize, still, how it can be beautiful. [Read more]

Spring Hill Fire Rescue is now independent from county
Spring Hill Fire Rescue became an independent district Thursday with the signing of House Bill 1147 by Gov. Charlie Crist. The bill, which grew from a referendum effort in November, frees the district from the county's control and creates a special fire and rescue district that will be overseen by an elected five-member board. The district will have the authority to collect ad valorem taxes, user charges and impact fees, and set special assessments. The bill, which was introduced to the Legislat [Read more]

No thanks. Been there, done that, got the sweat-stained T. I’m not knocking the hiking, the biking, the rivering, the mountain climbing. At various times and states of physical fitness I’ve done all the above, although admittedly the mountain climbing was more of a hill, and more out of necessity when left behind with only a switchblade knife, by some so-called friends. Long story. Later. But I still love the rafting, canoeing and such, because any sport in which you’re floating inches from cool [Read more]

Audiences dying to see 'Sweeney Todd'
I did not want to portray him as a man who merely thirsts for blood, he said. In stark contrast to Sweeney, Mrs. Lovett is the villain of the show. Too often she is portrayed as mere comical relief - a disheveled woman who gets a chance to be with the man she loves, even if it goes unnoticed. I have, instead, envisioned a woman who has had her hand in every negative event, and who consciously manipulates every situation to serve her own desires. [Read more]

Huntington Beach APA presents an unsettling and profound Sweeney Todd
The revolving set piece (Michelle Hakan) consisting of the parlor, the meat pie shop, the streets of London, and the kitchen, with the barber shop on top, is expertly designed; the scene of London on the back wall and platforms and stairs flanking the stage give the set a realistic feeling. The props (Elizabeth Gibson), particularly the barber chair, are well chosen and fit each actor's need. The stage crew (Mary Tobon) changes scenes quickly and smoothly without detracting from the action. [Read more]
