Super Mario Kart

Super Mario Kart Edit

(1992)   |

( fr ) Super Mario Kart is the first video game in the Mario Kart series, released in 1992 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Players race go-karts as one of eight characters from the Super Mario Bros. series. It features advanced graphics for the time thanks to its use of Mode 7 texture mapping. The music was composed by Soyo Oka and Taro Bando, and included some sequences and variants of Koji Kondo's works, though he had no direct involvement in the project.

Tetris turns 25: Is it the next Olympic sport?
In the game, players must position and stack blocky shapes to fill a grid without leaving spaces in between. Successfully completed sections disappear. The more sections the player completes without reaching the top, the higher the score. The faster players accomplish this, the higher their score. iReport: 25 years of Tetris [Read more]

SNesoid ? Emulating SNES
Game play is great, but can get choppy at some undesirable moments. Like when you're trying to slide into a bend during Super Mario Kart, or hopping the Mega Bullet Bills in Super Mario World. Surprisingly, Donkey Kong Country plays very well; out of the games I tested I expected this one to do the worst and had that thought blissfully reject by yongzh. Controls are going to be a bit scary once I try and delve into some of my other childhood favorites, such as Mortal Kombat, which make constant [Read more]

Nike+ Mashup: Mario Kart Ghost Racers on Real Streets
Amidst some wishful musings, Dennis Crowley - blogger, NYC resident and co-founder of the nerd-gasmic Foursquare - has come up with possibly the most fantastic use of “augmented reality” yet. He wants to use an iPhone to play real-life Ghost Racers. If you have played Super Mario Kart, you'll know the score. In single-player time trials you get to race against yourself. Your previous best race is replicated by a ghost version of you, and the goal is to beat it. Crowley suggests that a [Read more]

Half-Life Fridge Magnets: Need, not want
I like how the artist who makes these Half-Life magnets gets from start to finish. First, imagine Half-Life if it were an 8-bit NES game, then make magnets based on what the characters would look like. Or maybe it was: make Half-Life magnets, realize they look like 8-bit NES sprites, then say they're from the imaginary 8-bit version of the game. Either way, finding cooler fridge magnets would be tough—nay, impossible.Available over on Etsy.com (and available since last year, for cracked ic [Read more]

Blackhawks show no signs of nervousness
Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said it was just the response he was hoping for from his young squad. We didn't want to dramatically change our approach going into games starting the playoffs, he said. It's been a new experience for everyone. We've got a lot of young guys. How we feel after games, it's a new day, it's a fresh attitude, and our approach has been very consistent in the playoffs. They may be loose, but they're still focused on the task at hand, which is winning Game 2 Tuesday n [Read more]

Model Train Briefcase Design
If you have a highflying job, which comes with a cool cabin, but you are shy of carrying train sets in a childish or “non-business” case, you would perhaps like the Blumenau model train set. It comes encased in an expensive looking briefcase and people could easily mistake it to be a suitcase containing classified business and company documents over which you would pore in your cabin. Only, no one would guess that you would actually playing and arranging the model train set in secrec [Read more]
