( fr ) Quentin Tarantino (born in 1963) is an American film director, actor, and Oscar-winning screenwriter. He rapidly rose to fame in the early 1990s as a latter-day auteur whose use of nonlinear storylines, edgy tough-guy dialogue, and stylized violence brought new life to familiar American film archetypes. He is one of the most famous young directors behind the independent film revolution of the 1990s with cult movies such as Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill.

the garbage life our fellow citizens are living

Jimsey   World's greatest garbage/trash director. It would be interesting to see him work on something that didn't have 'Tarantino' written all over it.

Badass International Trailer for Inglourious Basterds Hits!
Now this finally looks like a badass Quentin Tarantino movie! A new French trailer for Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds has hit the web (via YouTube) and it's definitely a must watch. I've been waiting to see a trailer that not only does a good job of actually selling the movie, but is just plain awesome itself, and this is finally it. Not only does it actually stick to the real story about the movie premiere in Paris, but it has a great Tarantino vibe to it that was never in either of the first two trailers. Whether you're still waiting to see something more or are already looking forward to this, you need to watch this new trailer either way.You can catch my review of Inglourious Basterds from Cannes right here if you haven't already. Excited?Watch the international trailer for Q [Read more]

An Inglourious Basterds Prequel Is More Likely Than We Thought
A couple months ago, Quentin Tarantino told the New York Times that he had a half-written prequel to Inglourious Basterds that he'd like to make if the first does well. This didn't come as much of a surprise; if there's one thing Tarantino likes to do, it's mention follow-up projects to whatever he's currently promoting. Additional Kill Bill stories and anime, the Vega Brothers movie and other projects have all been QT-touted vaporware over the years. Then again, Inglourious Basterds was vaporware for a decade, too, and now it exists. So who the hell am I to say? Why you might actually see a prequel/sequel to Basterds, after the jump. The second film has been described as a prequel, featuring a squad of African-American soldiers that played into a subplot Tarantino dropped from earlier draf [Read more]

Harvey Weinstein Won’t Reveal the Plot of Inglourious Basterds II to Anyone But Jacqueline Bisset
BTW, isn't it high time someone rebooted The Deep?Inglourious Basterds came out of this year's Cannes Film Festival battling buzz that it was not only boring, but also that Harvey Weinstein thought it was 40 minutes too long. So, in an effort to get people energized about the film that could either make or break the Weinstein Co., Harvey conducted an interview with GQ. In it, he blames some insane blogger for starting those rumors and promises that Quentin Tarantino is not gonna cut, he's just reorganizing some scenes. Most interestingly, though, Harvey seems very excited about a possible prequel to the film:Brad [Pitt] wants to do Inglourious II. We all want to do it. And the movie hasn’t even come out yet! But unfortunately I cannot give away the plot. [pause] Unless you turned int [Read more]

Harvey Weinstein Berates Bloggers Over Basterds Cutting Rumors
You gotta love Harvey Weinstein. I imagine he'd be more than happy to fight anyone who asks (kind of like Uwe Boll). Right now I'm certain all that's on his mind is making sure that Inglourious Basterds, The Road, and Rob Marshall's Nine are huge hits, or The Weinstein Company may not make it to next year. A month ago, the web was abuzz with a controversial rumor that Quentin Tarantino was being forced by Harvey Weinstein to cut some 40 minutes off of Inglourious Basterds. It seemed hokey anyway, as it came from a very skeptical report on The Wrap. But now Harvey sets it all straight in this GQ interview. Those stories are all untrue. There's no fucking way. Here, read my lips: That is nuts. Please don't even write that, it's insanity. There's not even a question of that. Whatever you're re [Read more]

Eli Roth In Talks To Remake The Funhouse
Eli Roth is one of those writer/directors from the Quentin Tarantino school of talking about projects and ideas in development, many of which might never come to fruition (not a bad thing, it keeps us working). Recently Roth has been talking up his Transformers-sized sci-fi epic Endangered Species and Thanksgiving (based on the faux Grindhouse trailer) which he plans to shoot back to back. But now Roth tells Fangoria that he is also in talks to produce (possibly direct?) a remake of the classic 1981 Tobe Hooper horror film The Funhouse.I’m talking with Universal about that one. The Funhouse is a movie where the first half is brilliant—they set up these great characters—and then they pay off none of them. You have Marco the Magician sawing his daughter in half, the brothers who run the carn [Read more]

UPDATE: More On Weinstein Co Meltdown
First, I'm amused that others are so behind in their reporting: I posted days ago that Harvey Weinstein successfully talked Quentin Tarantino into agreeing to cut down Inglourious Basterds. Actually, Tarantino himself was stung by the very mixed reviews coming out of the Cannes Film Festival, so he and his people knew the film needed more [...] [Read more]

Stephen Chow Producing Animated Sequel To CJ7
Since Sam Raimi and Quentin Tarantino sky-rocketed Stephen Chow's US reputation with their effusive praise of Shaolin Soccer, you'll probably find that the least well received picture in Chow's ouevre has been the sci-fi family film CJ7. Personally though, I absolutely love it, and this is in spite of its sometimes woeful CG work and the occasionally confusing slapstick non-sequiturs (see also: Drag Me to Hell). Despite the director's long standing promise of a sequel to the masterful Kung Fu Hustle, it seems the first direct follow up to be spawned from one of Chow's pictures will be a CJ7 continuation - CJ72, if you will. Instead of being live action like the first installment, however, this one is to be all-animated.Animation is a better medium for the intent and style of this particula [Read more]

Is Harvey Weinstein Asking Tarantino To Cut 40 Minutes From Inglourious Basterds?
Forcing a filmmaker to submit to editorial oversight can be a good thing, but when the Big Brother hanging over your Avid is Harvey Weinstein? Things can get ugly. We knew that Quentin Tarantino was making some cuts and changes to Inglourious Basterds in the wake of the film's Cannes Premiere, tightening that 2 hour 27 minute cut and even adding a scene or two. But Sharon Waxman at The Wrap claims that The Weinstein Company wants Tarantino to cut a massive 40 minutes. Is this an artistic move to strengthen the film or a desperate bid to squeeze more cash out of the film in August by keeping the running time down? With The Weinstein Company having massive cash problems, what do you think? What Waxman says is this:Weinstein and co-producer Universal are both trying to convince Tarantino to cu [Read more]

Quentin Tarantino And Brad Pitt To Adapt Swedish Book Trilogy?
Now that Quentin Tarantino and Brad Pitt have Inglourious Basterds more or less behind them (Tarantino has test-screened the film in the US and is making additional edits now) will the pair work together again? Anne Thompson suggests that they might. She's perpetuating a report found in the Times of London that Tarantino and Pitt are interested in the Millennium Trilogy, three hugely popular books by Swedish author Stieg Larsson. The first novel, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (originally called Män som hatar kvinnor, which translates to Men Who Hate Women) is about Mikael Blomkvist, a magazine publisher (the mag is called Millennium, hence the trilogy title) who is brought into a cold case investigation involving a missing heiress. Working with a Lisbeth Salander, a punkish hacker girl, h [Read more]

TARANTINO GETS MIXED REVIEWS, CUTS
Variety’s Anne Thompson did an interview with Quentin Tarantino recently, in which he told her that he thought Death Proof wasn’t as good as it could’ve been because he “overfiddled.”  Because of that, he put Inglourious Basterds on a tight schedule and delivered a “dripping wet” print to Cannes.  The Cannes cut was 2 hours [...] [Read more]

Tarantino Heading Back into the Editing Room with Basterds
Apparently the Cannes reaction wasn't good enough for Universal. Anne Thompson over at Variety published an update from Cannes a few days ago mentioning that Universal is urging Quentin Tarantino to make some changes to Inglourious Basterds before it officially hits theaters in late August. Tarantino has consistently worked with The Weinstein Company for most of his recent films, but Basterds was co-financed and co-produced by TWC and Universal, meaning that the studio has as much say as Harvey Weinstein this time around. And apparently they're not too happy with the feedback from Cannes. Before its premiere last Wednesday, the running time was one of the most talked about aspects of the film. It was listed in the Cannes guide at 2 hours, 40 minutes, but it actually only played roughly 2 ho [Read more]

Cannes 2009: Inglourious Basterds Is Amoral, Crude, Juvenile--In Other Words, Quintessential Tarantino
Our film critic J. Hoberman is filing regular dispatches from this year's Cannes Film Festival. It's time, finally, to hear about Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds.Inglourious Basterds--a World War II spaghetti western even more drenched in film references than bloodWednesday dawned, Inglourious Basterds arrived, and, at the press conference immediately following the movie's first, packed screening, the uberbasterd, as Quentin Tarantino was introduced, immediately one-upped a rival laureate. Two days before, Lars von Trier, maker of Antichrist, had used his press conference to anoint himself the greatest director in the world. Now, a few minutes into the love-fest, Tarantino declared that he was God--at least so far as the characters in Inglourious Basterds were concerned. Garrulous [Read more]

Cannes 2009: Inglourious Basterds.
Spoilers below. Quentin Tarantino's a great writer of dialogue, and no one's more convinced of the fact than Quentin Tarantino. The ratio of talk to action -- not gun fights or explosions, but just people doing stuff -- in Inglourious Basterds is, generously, nine to one. Again and again, characters sit down over drinks (whiskey, champagne, milk), and the stakes may be high, but the conversations are meandering and lengthy, and no matter how clever they may get, they end up defeated by their own pace and their writer's inability to let anything go. Even the opening scene, a confrontation between Nazi Col. Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz) and a French farmer hiding a Jewish family which is supposed to be a slow build of tension and dread, is derailed by digressions about rats and nicknames. The [Read more]

The Caribbean Basterds?
It has been 16 years, I think, since Enzo G. Castellari’s last big screen work, but buoyed by the publicity of Quentin Tarantino stemming Inglourious Basterds from his correctly spelled original, he’s coming back in a big way. And this time, he’s going to be taking his title from Quentin.Caribbean Basterds is being showcased at Cannes with a promo reel. According to Variety, the film “centers on a trio of young rich kids who rebel against their arms-dealing parents and also stumble across a big drug cache” and is set on a Venezuelan island - hence the title.Castellari has a way with hype. Here’s a couple of his choice quotes on the upcoming film:Action, action, action and lots of sex and drugs. There is lots of violence against rich folks, and the kids t [Read more]

Rumor: Sharon Stone Joining Quentin Tarantino's Weekend?
Wait just a minute! On the eve of the world premiere of Tarantino's newest film, which took years to pull together, a rumor hits about another never-heard-of project? Of all the places for this to come from, it's Variety, where they say (without confirmation) that Sharon Stone is potentially involved in a new project called Weekend to be directed by Quentin Tarantino. In addition to Stone, it will also star Jessica Biel, Lucy Liu, Dennis Hopper and Michael Madsen and it will film in Serbia. Has anyone ever heard about this before? Does Tarantino really have a new project lined up? Or is this just an early rumor gone too far?Adding more tidbits into the mix, SlashFilm uncovered this apparent update from Production Weekly.Michael Madsen & Bret Davidson were attached to direct together last y [Read more]

Whatever happened to the great American film director?
This summer, among all the anonymous blockbusters, remakes and sequels filling the multiplexes, only one American movie will open on the strength of its director – Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds. Yet even as Tarantino continues to be feted – first at Cannes and soon in cinemas across the world – there's a creeping, worrisome sense that a dearth of young American directors have the necessary clout to open a movie. At this year's Tribeca film festival in New York, it w [Read more]
