Tonight! Jenny Lewis vs. PJ Harvey, and the Vision Festival Begins
Jenny Lewis in Sweet Temptation (Part 4)Fair-haired girl-next-door Jenny Lewis, the former child actress and Rilo Kiley heartthrob, plays the Music Hall of Williamsburg in support of her latest solo release, Acid Tongue, a sugary country album that's found a place in entrenched Nashville.Lewis goes head-to-head with black-goddess-of-charcoal-and-death Polly Jean Harvey, who headlines at the Beacon with producer/guitarist John Parish. The Vision Festival begins its fourteenth season at the Abrons Arts Center, with performances by avant-garde jazz musicians Billy Bang and Douglas Ewart, along with poet Amiri Baraka. The Gipsy Kings return to B.B. King's. The flamenco superstars are best known in this country for their association with a child-molester named Jesus. [Read more]

PJ Harvey and an Inflatable Bounce Castle of One’s Own
The video for PJ Harvey and John Parish’s “Black Hearted Love” shows that the true way to enjoy an inflatable bounce castle is not on some sunny carnival grounds, but rather, deep in the dark woods, under pouring rain, with light bulbs exploding around you. And, of course, with Harvey bouncing and singing this scarily intense love song next to you. The first single off the upcomi [Read more]

New PJ Harvey
A few weeks ago, we posted Black Hearted Love, with its slinky, powerful PJ vocals and roaring guitar work by John Parish. It's reminiscent of Sonic Youth ... and the '90s in general. The song's dark vibe inspired Ms. Harvey's wardrobe (black gown, black nail polish) in a new Chapman Bros-directed clip that finds her alone in the woods bouncing in one of those inflatable moonwalks for children. PJ Harvey & John Parish @ El Rey Theatre, Los Angeles 3/23/09
Some 12 years after Dance Hall At Louse Point, Polly and Parish will release their jointly billed A Woman Walked By LP, next Tuesday (3/30) via Island Records. It's gotten off to a good start. Last night the pair hit L.A.'s El Rey Theatre in celebration, the first of only two shows they've scheduled for now (the second is at the Filmore at Irving Plaza in NYC on Thursday 3/26). HOWEVER it's worth [Read more]

PJ Harvey & John Parish Dust Off Black Hearted Love For Letterman
The longtime collaborators delivered the dark, slinky, windswept A Woman A Man Walked opener to Jay Leno two and a half months ago, but that doesn't stop Letterman from jokily analyzing the evocative ... mysterious album title as a chapter out of my life story, finding the rendition of the song very satisfying, and suavely addressing the ever shoeless Harvey by her given name (Polly, how are you?). She's backed by the talented M. Gira triplets and a drummer. Continue reading PJ Harvey & John Parish Dust Off Black Hearted Love For Letterman... [Read more]

Music festivals reach out to top chefs
Rebecca Seal The Observer, Sunday 21 June 2009 Those who think music festivals are all about the bands should think again. The line-up for Camp Bestival in Dorset this summer features PJ Harvey, Florence and The Machine, Will Young ... and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, who will be there doing cookery demonstrations and children's workshops. Harvest at Jimmy's festival in Suffolk in September, run by television farmer Jimmy Doherty, features Badly Drawn Boy, José González and Athlete, as w [Read more]

PJ Harvey, The Moore, the verdict
PJ Harvey at the Moore 06/16/09By Daniel O. WoolettI fairly recently became familiar with PJ Harvey's work -- an oversight that is being rectified. She is a chameleon-like artist, unafraid to embrace and express her darker inclinations, and an extremely poised entertainer. On Tuesday night at the Moore, before an adoring crowd, she was particularly expressive on A Woman A Man Walked By and Pig Will Not, both tracks from her latest collaboration with guitarist John Parish. As she lunged forwa [Read more]
