(1997, United States)   |   |   |   |   |   |

( fr ) Lost Highway is a 1997 psychological thriller directed by David Lynch. It is a crime film, arguably an example of contemporary film noir, but with surreal imagery and themes. Lynch co-wrote the screenplay with Barry Gifford; the score is by Angelo Badalamenti. Perhaps dealing with the fallibility of human memory, the film is, to many people, a confusing but unforgettable experience.

djbirddanerd Hall of fame  We've met before, haven't we. I don't think so. Where was it you think we met? At your house. Don't you remember? No. No, I don't. Are you sure? Of course. As a matter of fact, I'm there right now.
What do you mean? You're where right now?
At your house. That's fucking crazy, man. Call me. Dial your number. Go ahead.

A conversation with Richie Sambora
This time they're returning with bassist Hugh McDonald in tow, hot on the heels of Lost Highway, their triple-platinum selling (in Canada alone) album that sees the band adopt a Nashville-inspired sound. The band's two most recent concerts were shot using 22 high-definition cameras for a DVD that is coming out in the fall. [Read more]

Hayes Carll
So far, Hayes Carll hasn’t come close to Willie Nelson’s stylistic free-ranging through jazz, Western swing and classic pop, but there are similarities between the two Texans. They’re each formidable, distinctive singers and songwriters (Carll’s soulful drawl curls like rawhide), irreverent in their own good-natured ways, and they’ve both entertained doubts about entrusting their music to industry folks. Carll started out indie but eventually went with Lost Highway for l [Read more]

Goose Creek Symphony reaches into its archives
For instance, a solitary bass groove, a loose and light drum shuffle and a few brittle guitar shards morphed into the Monk standard Misterioso to start the program. The tune's temperament suited the trio well with a playful melody that eventually broke down into an equally animated guitar-and-bass dialogue and, at its conclusion, a merry guitar jangle with a percussive, chimelike charm. Similarly, the '60s Bacharach pop hit What the World Needs Now was again in the set list. But this time Frisel [Read more]

Worthwhile 'Confessions'
Talk about bad timing.“Confessions of a Shopaholic” (Touchstone; $29.99, DVD; $32.99, two-disc, special-edition DVD; $39.99, two-disc Blu-ray; June 23) — a romantic comedy that on the surface sounds like a celebration of conspicuous consumption — hit theaters in February. Pop star Williams is on a career roll, even if sometimes she'd
After my mother died — about five years ago, now — I wrote enough songs for a couple of albums, Williams said. I started demo-ing the 'West' album and had about 10 songs, but I kept writing, and I'd bring in a new one every couple of days. I wanted to put out a double album, but Lost Highway (her record label) wasn't real fond of the idea, I guess, because of the economy. [Read more]

MUSIC SCENE: Carll is really cooking
“A label like Lost Highway is really the best way to reach people, which is what this business is all about,” Carll remarked.. “I had been pretty leery of signing a deal for a long time. But they certainly helped spread the word to a lot more people than we'd have ever been to do on our own.”  One extra kick to this tour is that Nolan is opening for Carll, as the Winnipeg native has become a longtime friend of Carll's who has helped make him a fairly big name in western [Read more]

Middleton's Big Event: Joel Pingitore And The Playground, John Eddie
Bookmark Sat. June 13, 4 p.m. Middleton's Big Event: Joel Pingitore And The Playground, John Eddie at Capital Brewery John Eddie has accepted a life of writing and playing sturdy, plainspoken roots-rock songs for a modest audience, at least judging by the title of his 2003 Lost Highway release, Who The Hell Is John Eddie?. And modesty suits his music: There might not be anything unusual about it, but he knows how to reach people with a lyric, whether it’s about love or getting old. [Read more]

Shawnee Theatre opens 50th season Thursday night
I don't feel at home until I'm here. I think there aren't a lot of places out there like this. The community is so supportive, because of that the people who work here become like family. A lot of artists do what they do to satisfy their own desires, but I think when you do it in a community that appreciates it so much it makes you that much better at what you do. It means a lot more when you are part of a lineage that goes back 50 years, Guthridge explained. In the 1950s, Adrian H. Rehner came [Read more]
