( fr ) Led Zeppelin were an English rock band that became one of the most successful and influential groups in popular music history. Formed in 1968, they were consistent innovators who never lost mainstream appeal, remaining popular and accessible right through to their last album. While the band is perhaps best known as pioneers of hard rock and heavy metal, Led Zeppelin also included disparate elements from an eclectic spectrum in their music, including blues, rockabilly, soul, funk, Celtic, Indian, Arabic, folk, and even Latin.

Tonight! Reality-TV Rejects, '80s Cheese, and Worthy Jazz
How the fuck did Ryan Cabrera fall all the way to Sullivan Hall? Five years ago, the MTV star was sitting happily in the Billboard top 10, hooking up with Elvis' granddaughter, ripping Ashlee Simpson's facile little heart into pieces. Tonight, he plays an acoustic set at a venue music-business students rent out for NYU bands and Led Zeppelin tributes.Meanwhile, Def Leppard, Poison, and Cheap Trick rock Jersey's PNC Amphitheater. Note to music-business majors: '80s megacheese is always more reliable than reality-TV stars.CMJ sensation MGMT are at the Prospect Park Bandshell. It's a paid, ticketed show, so it might not be so crowded. Two worthy jazz sets: the peculiar flourishes of rising-star pianist Hiromi at the Blue Note, and the artfully staggered rhythms of Trio M at Smalls. [Read more]

And We Go La La La La La
Since the last few years have seen everyone from the Pixies to Led Zeppelin getting back together, you might think there are no big bands left to reunite. Well, you'd be wrong: Late-eighties Swedish pop demigods Roxette are set to reunite in October at the Night of the Proms festival in Antwerp, Belgium. Phew, now we can go back to focusing on convincing Stephen Patrick Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke, and Mike Joyce to start talking to each other again! Bjork.com: “Bjork accepts position as Led Zep’s new singer”
In what has to be the best April Fool’s I’ve heard all day (except except Youtube), Bjork.com reported that the Icelandic lass will be the lead singer for the Led Zeppelin reunion. But if you went to look for tour dates, you would have found that it’s an April Fool’s joke. (link via someone who I [...] [Read more]

Sheen reveals his secret for crying on camera
That was certainly true of Buckley himself, the hard-living folk singer having overdosed on heroin in 1975, establishing him in rock mythology to such a degree the plenty of other acts have been similarly drawn to cover his most famous tune – from Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant to Red Hot Chili Peppers' guitarist John Frusciante. Connie Hamzy
Sweet Connie is more than a two-line cameo in a 30-year-old song: She's the world's most notorious rock'n'roll groupie, with a sexual resume that dates back to 1970. Her list of conquests reads like the selections on a biker-bar jukebox, including, she claims, members of the Who, Led Zeppelin, the Eagles, Bad Company, the Allman Brothers Band, ZZ Top, and the Doobie Brothers. In 1974, when Hamzy was 19, her groupie escapades were detailed in a Cosmopolitan magazine profile, and in 1992 she wrote [Read more]

Morast: Hjemkomst fest doesn't 'rock'
Then there's Krauka, a “rock” act from Denmark and Iceland that's coming here in the fall. It sounds – and looks – like a “SNL” spoof on a renaissance festival band. For verification, go to YouTube and witness the group's version of Led Zeppelin's “Immigrant Song.” It's muzak for lumberjacks. [Read more]

The Phoenix Network:
As someone who'swritten about some of the biggest stars of the age -- from Led Zeppelin to ZiggyMarley to Guns N Roses -- is there any question that Michael Jackson was at thetop of the list?Well, you know I wasn't a very big fan of Michael Jackson.I'm a reggae fanatic. But there's certainly nobody in the second half of the 20thcentury who burned brighter than him. He's one of these semi-mythical, elfinfigures, like Elvis. And it makes us wonder
IT'S time once again to ask: What is the greatest song? Radio stations, magazines and websites have polled their listeners and readers on that, but the answer was simpler in the 1980s. Whether you were listening to the teen-friendly network show Take 40 Australia or an adult-oriented rock station, Led Zeppelin's 1971 epic Stairway to Heaven was commonly voted the greatest song of all time. Then Triple J, the ABC's youth-oriented alternative rock station, entered the fun, doing its first all-time [Read more]

LAFF Review: It Might Get Loud
Okay, this is how you play guitar. | Photo courtesy of the Los Angeles Film FestivalUltimately, of course, we arrive at Led Zeppelin. Guggenheim brings Page back to one of rock's holiest sites -- Headley Grange. We follow Page throughout the main house as he points out where John Bonham's drum kit was set up for the recording of When the Levee Breaks. We see previously unseen footage of the band hanging around the front yard playing with dogs as they take a break from recording. As a longti [Read more]

Long Player: Live album benchmark of energy and execution
In the age of the single download, Jeff Harford rediscovers the album... The hard-rock movement of the early '70s was a glorious young beast, still growing into its gargantuan feet. Full of invention yet feeding greedily on its rhythm and blues, jazz and classical influences, it counted in its number several vital British acts. Alongside Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple produced some of the genre's most thrilling albums, including a live classic that remains a benchmark for s [Read more]

Although our MTV-brainwashed world is too busy foisting off all the latest mindless drivel in pop music, and classic rock somehow only seems to involve the Stones, the Who, or Led Zeppelin, the fact is- The Beatles were the greatest rock band ever. No other rock band in the history of music changed the world in such dramatic fashion. Sure, Elvis brought rock to the forefront as an entertainment, but people often forget that rock almost died in the 1960-1962 era of payola scandals and Dick Clark [Read more]

Prieta: Very quietly, the Stockton-bred rock group has been working on a new record, and guess what: It's done! Word is quickly beginning to spread around town about the group's fireballing blues rock that makes drinking buddies of Led Zeppelin, Buddy Guy and Queens of the Stone Age, and they'll be celebrating with some new tunes and possibly lead singer Alex Ayers' recent dabbling with the keyboard to go with his spit-shined vocals. Bands reunited
Bands reunited Andy Morris 18 June 2009 17:36 At the 2008 GQ Men of the Year Awards, Led Zeppelin reunited on stage. Friendly and good humoured, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones showed no sign of the animosity that is supposed to have stopped them from touring. It was going so well (Dave Grohl's rabble-rousing intro certainly helped) that Jones even joked that it was time to do another show. This was a band that showed that it was possible to reunite gracefully - that if the publi [Read more]
