Animation Wednesday: Second Full Length Planet 51 Trailer
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs opens today and that means all the other studios (mainly Sony Pictures) are putting out there new trailers for their upcoming animated movies. First up we have the second full length trailer for Planet 51 on Yahoo. Featuring the voice talents of Dwayne Johnson, Seann William Scott, Jessica Biel, Justin Long, Gary Oldman, and John Cleese. The story is a complete spin on the normal sci-fi tale in that an astronaut lands on a planet and discovers a new civilization, except to them, he is the alien. This looks quirky and fun, like any other animated movie. Nice touch with The Killer's Spaceman, too.Watch the theatrical trailer for Planet 51:[flv:http://media2.firstshowing.net/firstshowing/planet-51-second-trailer.flv http://media2.firstshowing.net/firstshowing/pl [Read more]

Madagascar's flying circus, starring the amazing
A little before sunset, around 6pm, as the sky was streaked with purple herons flying in for feeding, I was delivered to Eulophiella Lodge, recently constructed on a clearing in the middle of the island's eastern high plateau, 20 minutes from one of Madagascar's most renowned rainforests. My luggage was delivered to my capacious wooden bungalow while I prepared myself for a nocturnal walk. I had been on the move for 29 hours and would have welcomed some sleep, preferring to postpone the excursio [Read more]

Exclusive: Richard Caring's restaurant empire
It's more likely that his permanent restlessness and need to be doing caused him to look around for fresh challenges once he sensed that, as he puts it, the fashion industry didn't need him any more. Maybe, also, the allure of designing clothes for teenagers was slightly losing its appeal? 'What I do takes a lot of work, effort and time and stress. If you love what you do, it's much easier,' he concedes. At any rate, when his friend Elliott Bernerd advised him that Wentworth Golf Club was for sa [Read more]

Kids In the Hall's McKinney joins Newhart, Ullman, Cleese as
I've always had a feeling that comedy and drama were interchangeable, you know - comedy is drama interrupted, drama is comedy interrupted by drama. So, 'Slings and Arrows' was to me very funny, but I liked the moving points. I love it when something slips from funny to sad back to funny again, says McKinney, currently executive producer and writer on the dark Citytv comedy Less Than Kind. [Read more]

Result a disaster for social democrats
THIS startling European election result is a big victory for Europe's conservatives, a devastating result for the continent's social democrats, and a challenging result for the institutions of Europe itself.European voters don't seem to have read Kevin Rudd's essay on the collapse of neo-liberalism, the associated blame to be apportioned to mainstream conservative parties and the historic moment for the emergence of a new social-democratic consensus. In Britain, Labour lost to the conservatives [Read more]

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Banff World Television Festival, which will get underway on Sunday.
