Aka Republic Of Ireland

 |

( fr ) Ireland is the third largest island in Europe. It lies in between the Atlantic Ocean and Irish Sea. Politically it is divided into the Republic of Ireland (officially named Ireland), a state which covers five-sixths of the island (south, east, west and north-west), and Northern Ireland, part of the United Kingdom, which covers the northeastern sixth of the island. The name 'Ireland' derives from the name Ériu (Modern Irish:Éire) with the addition of the Germanic word 'land'. There are many influential Irish figures in culture. Successful entertainment exports in the late twentieth century include acts such as Horslips, U2, Thin Lizzy, Bob Geldof, The Corrs, The Cranberries and Enya, and the internationally acclaimed dance shows Riverdance and Lord of the Dance

COMMENT: Living with terror ?Shaukat Qadir
Military operations will have to recapture the Taliban dominated areas and maintain a presence there for the foreseeable future. But the political government will have to redress the people’s grievances and give them a reason to be peaceful citizensOn May 27, Lahore was again attacked by a suicide bomber. Apparently, the target was the ISI building, but the attack plan had a built-in alternative target: the Rescue15 building adjacent to the primary target. Interview with Gay Author Alex Jeffers
Q: Your novel, Safe as Houses, is being re-released after 12 years from its last printing, right? Tell us about the story and why you’ve decided to release it again.A: Safe as Houses is an AIDS novel, I suppose, in the sense that you discover the narrator’s illness on the first page (or the flap copy or back-cover blurbs). But what novel about gay men in the eighties and early nineties wasn’t an AIDS novel? Primarily, though, it’s a novel about family and—in Nigel N [Read more]

Day a car bomb brought carnage to a small town: The first extract
When the bombers had parked, they had set the timer by adjusting a black plastic knob and two metal switches. And so the minutes began ticking down to an atrocity in which 29 people (and two unborn children) would die, hundreds would be injured and the lives of families and friends would be scarred for life. I'm alive, Melini says.If you think it's not easy being green, try doing it in a place as violent as Guatemala, where environmentalism is often viewed as a radical pursuit and the rule of law remains a distant goal. Speaking out can bring a hit man to your door. For the last nine years, Melini has spoken out a lot. Using a mix of grass-roots activism, lawsuits and old-fashioned lobbying, his organization tackles issues from illegal logging in protected forests and t [Read more]

He briefly settled in the growing town of St. Louis before leaving for the western frontier to seek better health in the clean air of the wilderness and to gain riches in the trapp [Read more]

Courageous Sri Lanka put the past behind
If the two-Test series in Pakistan was notable for anything other than the atrocities committed, it was the dominance of the batsmen. Thilan Samaraweera's dual double-centuries were celebrated by his countrymen - almost as enthusiastically as his anticipated comeback from a bullet wound later this month will be - and Tillakaratne Dilshan's near even-time century gave further weight to the theory that this was a Sri Lankan batting line-up at the height of its considerable powers.
