Indiana Jones

Indiana Jones Edit

 |   |   |   |

( fr ) Indiana Jones is a fictional adventurer, soldier, professor of archaeology, and the main protagonist of the Indiana Jones franchise. George Lucas created the character in homage to the action heroes of 1930s film serials. The character first appeared in the 1981 film Raiders of the Lost Ark, to be followed by Temple of Doom in 1984, The Last Crusade in 1989, The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles from 1992 to 1996, and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008. As well as film and television appearances, the character has been featured in novels, comics, video games, and other media. Jones is also featured in the theme park attraction Indiana Jones Adventure, which exists in similar forms at Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. Jones is most famously played by Harrison Ford; he has also been portrayed by River Phoenix (as the young Jones in The Last Crusade), and in the television series The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles by Corey Carrier, Sean Patrick Flanery, and George Hall. Doug Lee has supplied Jones's voice to two LucasArts video games, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, while David Esch supplied his voice to Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb. Tom Selleck was originally cast in the role in Raiders of the Lost Ark; however, due to Selleck's commitment to Magnum PI, he was replaced by Ford. The character's iconic outfit was designed by Jim Steranko. Jones is notable for his bullwhip, fedora, leather jacket, and fear of snakes.

Hold On, Indiana Jones 5 Isn't as Far Along as You Think!
So earlier this week, Shia LaBeouf let slip that Spielberg had cracked a story on Indiana Jones 5 and that they're gearing that up. It was pretty big news, especially because some people were thinking we'd never see another one (despite the $787 million that Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull made worldwide). However, that doesn't mean we'll be seeing it that soon. Empire talked with producer Frank Marshall recently, who told them that it's still in very early development. Until there's a script, nothing's definite, he said. Don't expect to see this shooting by the end of the year... or even next year.To give you an idea of where it's at in development, Marshall wrote on Twitter: The story for Indy5 is progressing. It is still in the research phase. That just means they're [Read more]

Indiana Jones 5 Really Isn’t That Close
Earlier this week most of us gave a collective groan when Shia LaBeouf mentioned that Steven Spielberg had cracked the story for a fifth Indiana Jones film. So how far off is it, really? Empire's headline today (Indy 5 Is A Go!) might lead you to think sooner rather than later, but that may not be the case. Producer Frank Marshall said things that Empire interpreted as meaning the film could be approaching the pencil-chewing script development stage, which means it isn't anywhere close to happening. It's really about the script, Marshall said. Once we see that, we'll see. We're not going to wait another 20 years. We'd all love to make another one. I'm anxious to hear the idea! Translation: standard producer stuff. That line could mean anything. The one thing to take away from this is that, [Read more]

Producer Frank Marshall Says “Don’t Spend Your Money” on IMAX Digital
Over the last month, we've written quite a few times about the new Digital IMAX theatres and how we believe that the IMAX Corporation is ripping off moviegoers by placing the IMAX brand name on subpar sized cinema screens nationwide. Actor/comedian Aziz Ansari started the public fuss, Pulitzer Prize winning movie critic Roger Ebert publicly came out against the practice, yet IMAX ignorantly ignored the critisism, and insists that audiences are too stupid to notice the difference (obviously, they didn't phrase it that way, I'm just giving you my interpertation -- read the linked article for exact quotes). Now big Hollywood players are beginning to step up and take a stance on the issue.Producer Frank Marshall agrees that IMAX Digital is false advertising. For those who might not recognize t [Read more]

Shia LaBeouf Says Spielberg is 'Gearing Up' Indiana Jones 5
We all knew it was going to happen - Spielberg would make Indiana Jones 5 whether we wanted it or not. But we haven't heard much about it and I think a lot of people were hoping that they would've just given up by now. But that's not the case. In a recent interview with the BBC, Shia LaBeouf says, Steven [Spielberg] just said that he cracked a story on it before I left and I think they're gearing that up. He doesn't say much else, except that there are definitely no special effects in that movie, but it's enough of an update to remind us that this is indeed coming soon, whether you like it or not. Let's hope it's better than the last one.Even if you enjoyed Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I think we've all come to admit it was quite a let ... [Read more]

Indiana Jones 5 to Probably Exist
We had hoped they'd listen to reason, or at least our incensed blog posts about the CGI monkeys in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. But since that movie made $787 million before its DVD release ($65 million of which went straight to Harrison Ford), there was clearly no avoiding this: Steven Spielberg has allegedly had an idea for how to bring Indiana Jones back for another movie, according to Shia LaBeouf. In a BBC interview, after discussing his craft for a bit, LaBeouf is asked if he'll appear again as Mutt Williams. He will: Steven just said he 'cracked the story' on it, and I think they're gearing that up. We can only hope Spielberg will adopt a consistent policy on actors who leak his plans for movies and just decide to shoot this script instead. Shia LaBeouf talks [Read more]

INDIANA JONES AND THE OH GOD KILL ME NOW
(These are not the dorks you’re looking for…)The last Indiana Jones movie had one of the stupidest plots ever conceived and the action scenes looked like they were shot at the make-your-own-video booth at the mall.  Oh, but it made $786.6 million dollars, at least 750 of which from people leaving the theater going, “‘To [...] [Read more]

Spielberg Has “Cracked the Story” of Indiana Jones 5
The Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen team are in the UK, to premiere the film and plug the mercy out if it. My own video from the London press day is coming soon, but in the meantime, the BBC have popped their own interviews online and, by the by, broken a story on the next Indiana Jones film.Newsround presenter Lizo Mzimba squeezed Shia LaBeouf for some details on his upcoming projects and according to the sometime Jones Jr., Steven Spielberg has cracked the story for the next movie and is gearing that up.There's been a long standing rumor that Spielberg and Lucas are planning a hand-down of the torch from Harrison Ford to Shia LaBeouf, a rumor that started before part four yet still stands. How true that story is I have no idea, however, but I'm not exactly keen on the idea. For an In [Read more]

Screenwriter Gary Ross Hired for Lance Armstrong Biopic
If there is one biopic I'd absolutely love to see, it's one about cyclist Lance Armstrong, who is one of the most amazing individuals on the planet, both in terms of physical strength and in what he has achieved with Live Strong. Columbia Pictures has been trying to develop a biopic about Armstrong for a number of years, but its never really gotten too far along. However, THR reports today that Oscar nominated screenwriter Gary Ross (Big, Pleasantville, Seabiscuit) has been hired to write a new script based on Armstrong's first book, It's Not About the Bike. The project is being developed by Indiana Jones producer Frank Marshall.Marshall explains that it was Armstrong's recent decision to come out of retirement this year to try to win a record eighth title (see this news report) that helpe [Read more]
