Aka The Idiot

(1868)   |   |   |   |   |

( fr ) The Idiot is a novel written by Fyodor Dostoevsky in 1869. 'Towards the end of November, during a thaw, at nine o'clock one morning, a train on the Warsaw and Petersburg railway was approaching the latter city at full speed. The morning was so damp and misty that it was only with great difficulty that the day succeeded in breaking; and it was impossible to distinguish anything more than a few yards away from the carriage windows'.

What About Free Market Health Care?
Blogs home Loyal Opposition What About Free Market Health Care? Well, I am new to blogging and I think I must have broken some rule. What I intended as a relative narrow piece on the cost of national health care as patterned in the Congress degenerated into a name calling diatribe on the subject of third party payments. My blog was hijacked and I fell for it. I apologize for my part in it. That said, such an approach could be viable so let us explore it a bit.I admit my ignorance on the c [Read more]

A guardian worthy of the institutions
Noise Rating: BOMB I am soft on crime, I heartily endorse drug abuse, and I vow to use my vote to elect cheaters, thereby corrupting the morals of the youth of Western civilization (and Eastern civilization, too, come to think of it). Close Family Bond Key In Protecting Kids From Social Ills
Hj Zulkifli said that numerous studies have shown that if parents establish a close, happy relationship with their children, their children are likely to be free from social ills and can fare better in any undertakings they explore. On the other hand, if parents do not have this relationship with their children, they are likely to face consequences, such as their children being involved in negative social activities, when they grow up. Opposition leader in probe
SYDNEY - AUSTRALIAN opposition leader Malcolm Turnbull said on Sunday he had given a statement to police about a fake email at the heart of claims that Prime Minister Kevin Rudd misled parliament. It follows a week of political controversy over the so-called 'Utegate' affair, which relates to a small truck, known in Australia as a 'ute', loaned to Mr Rudd by a car dealer friend for electoral purposes. The email in question allegedly came from Mr Rudd's office and was cited by the opposition as [Read more]

vh1's 'New York Goes to Work' and characteristics of difficult
I have been hooked on reality shows since the first season of “The Real World” on MTV. Nowadays I love to watch the dating shows on VH1, much to the dismay of my boyfriend—who has seen more episodes of “Flavor of Love,” “Rock of Love,” and “Daisy of Love,” than he would rather admit to. However, if you’re a fan like I am, you know all about Tiffany “New York” Pollard, who is not so lucky at love. For those of you who don&rsq [Read more]

LT: Well no.  There was nothing of that kind indicated Laurie. And I think there is an extraordinary thing going on here that Mr Turnbull on the one hand is getting all puffed up and  pompous about parliamentary privilege and protecting the ability of public servants to leak and yet he's had his own troops out there back grounding journalists more or less saying that Godwin Gretch was a serial leaker and provider of information to the Liberal party, and so he's dumped Mr Gretch right in it in or [Read more]

The studs of summer TV
June 28, 2009 | We don't need another hero. The fact is, we don't trust your run-of-the-mill hero anymore. We're suspicious of that fearless look in his eye. (Who isn't scared these days? Has he been drinking?) We're unnerved by that steely set to his jaw. (Is he smoking meth?) If a man rode in on a white horse and swept us off our feet, we'd probably sue him for the back trouble we suffered as a result of his valiant gesture. Most of us don't want a beefy, confident hunk anyway. D-Backs' problems run deeper than Hinch
The Diamondbacks are a nightmare. They play soft. They don't always hustle. They find a way to lose close games. In a rough economy, their shameful performance and collective incompetence has all but ruined the team's business plan. We'll obviously take a hit with some (season-ticket) renewals, team president Derrick Hall said. What's scary is the nature of our young fan base. We need to educate them. We need them to be loyal to the organization and not waver because of a tough season, a seaso [Read more]

Gauge rises when air conditioner on
Q: I have a problem with my 1999 Mercury Sable that my mechanic can't seem to figure out, as it only happens in the summer. When the outside temperature is above 75 degrees and the air conditioning is on, the car will overheat. The gauge goes three-quarters of the way toward hot, taking about 15 minutes in city driving and 45 minutes on the highway. Once the car exits the highway, the thermostat will start to rise. When this happens, I would shut the AC off and the temperature gauge would retu [Read more]

Casinos Going Bankrupt! How the Hell Does that Happen?
Getting an MBA was not on my radar when I was at IU, and I'm certain had I asked, the feeling would have been mutual.  It seems to me with my non-grad-degreed business acumen that it would be virtually impossible to lose money running a casino.  Yet, the Indianapolis Star has a story a couple of times each week about how the casino operation at Hoosier Park in Anderson is teetering on the brink of filing for bankrupcy. Senate comes under pressure from Obama to follow House's lead and
The legislation, which the House narrowly approved Friday night, would place the first national limits on emissions of greenhouse gases from major sources — such as power plants, factories and oil refineries — to reduce the gases linked to global climate change. It would also start moving the U.S. away from fossil fuels and toward cleaner power sources, such as geothermal, wind, solar and more nuclear generators. [Read more]
