( fr ) Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) was an Austrian Symbolist painter and one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Art Nouveau (Vienna Secession) movement. His major works include paintings, murals, sketches and other art objects, many of which are on display in the Vienna Secession gallery. Klimt's primary subject is the female body, and his works are marked by a frank eroticism. His pencil drawings, which are very numerous, have been regarded by many as his greatest legacy.

Jewish Art, the Hudson and Bingo in the Bronx
But I don't think I've ever seen a museum whose subject and surroundings have been so suggestive and strange as the new 5,000-square-foot Derfner Judaica Museum in the Bronx, which managed to unite Bingo players, Jewish iconography and a sculpture garden with a view of the Hudson. The Derfner, which opens on Friday, is built into the ground floor of the Jacob Reingold Pavilion, completed a few years ago at the Hebrew Home at Riverdale. Its collection of Judaica goes back centuries, having grown [Read more]
