500 DAYS OF HALL & OATES & RECORD SCRATCH
500 Days of Summer has a new trailer out, and amazingly, they made it look like something I’d want to see.  Funny how replacing mom pants and a scene blatantly ripped from Garden State (and might I add it was the worst scene) will do that to a trailer.  Now we’ve got an anal sex [...] [Read more]

I LIKED IT BETTER WHEN HE WAS A PUPPY
Scrubs star Zach Braff is taking time off his busy schedule of making me want to wipe my ass with a lab puppy to direct Swingles, an upcoming romantic comedy and nickname for my balls.  Braff last directed Garden State, back in ‘04.  Story, which is based on a Duncan Birmingham spec, centers on a [...] [Read more]

Zach Braff To Direct Swingles
Actor turned director Zach Braff took a six-year break after his feature directorial debut Garden State, an emo indie romcom which was the surprise hit of the 2004 Sundance Film Festival. Bought by Fox Searchlight and Miramax, the film went on to make over $35 million worldwide, more than 14 times the film’s budget. The [...] [Read more]

Indiegasms Abound As Zooey Deschanel Sings the Smiths
Tagline: You should know up front that this is not a love story. Translation: Then why does this trailer make us beam with happiness? The Verdict: Marc Webb's 500 Days of Summer came out of this year's Sundance Film Festival with a significant amount of buzz. Not only did the mini-major studio with the Midas touch (Fox Searchlight) pick it up, but our own Logan Hill and Bilge Ebiri thought i [Read more]

Bruce Springsteen And Brandon Flowers Trek Down Thunder Road
Brandon Flowers returned from camping this past weekend to hook up with Bruce Sprinsgteen & the E Street Band in the Netherlands for the Pinkpop Festival. (Thanks for the tip, Curtis.) Knowing the Killers' drama like we do, it's logical they'd tackle Thunder Road, basically a Garden State fairytale. Flowers replaced his usual feathers with a fan-boy smile and manages to fit-in with the band around him. Unfortunately, the person shooting the video sang along with 6,000 of his or her friends, and didn't manage to fit-in with the band (at all).Continue reading Bruce Springsteen And Brandon Flowers Trek Down Thunder Road... Garden State: How Green Is Your Lawn?
You can probably learn the intricacies of push-reel mowing faster by doing it than by reading about it, so let me mention only one crucial aspect: above a certain grass height, say around 5 inches, a push-reel mower fails to cut grass and merely bends it, briefly knocking down the grass and allowing it to spring back victoriously only moments later. ERNIE 'JUNIOR' ALLO
Allo considers the Garden State the perfect place because he's a (relatively) short dash from the city while living in an area with open acres to practice riding Batman with his sons. Charlene, who gets in the saddle herself on occasion, is also a New Yorker-turned-Jerseyan. She says when old friends head south to visit Cowtown, they're often flummoxed by rustic scene. [Read more]

The Feelies
In his introduction to Garden State, New York novelist Rick Moody admitted to taking inspiration from the Feelies' The Good Earth to create the perplexing, effusive New Jersey where rock stars cruise the turnpike. (This while Zach Braff was still listening to the Shins.) Tonight's all-acoustic set from the recently reunited group might actually change your life. Playing on behalf of the Whitney Museum's curated music series commemorating indie artist Dan Graham, let the Feelies' multi-layered gu [Read more]

The 16 musicians of Cecil's Big Band fuse into an ace ensemble
Monday night's performance, even though there were several subs -- most importantly drummer Colby Inzer filling in for the great Andy Watson -- showed what Lee was talking about. Since heard last year, the band, which plays each M0wwwonday, revealed an elevated display of craft. The ensemble was tighter, the charts had a smoother flow, shades of dynamics were subtler. As to the quality of the musicians -- most from the Garden State -- and their improvisations, that has always been first rate. [Read more]

EHT junior best in area boys track
In the crucial dual meet against Oakcrest, EHT head coach George Wilkinson was looking for every possible point. He decided to make to one major change. He moved Johnson out of the long jump and into the 400. By doing so he conceded the long jump to the Falcons but got back a 1-3 finish in the 400. EHT won 72-68 and the Eagles' streak remained alive. Preserving open space is always worth support
During this recession, with so many families facing stress, these natural open spaces offer relaxation and tranquility for people to enjoy. As an example of what can be done with these open spaces, EWA purchased the Triple C Ranch and Nature Center, the last remaining farm in Edison, with New Jersey Green Acres funding in 2000. We now offer exciting environmental education programs for children and the community, such as our Earth Day Celebration 2009, with nature hikes, a petting zoo, arts and [Read more]
