What If Finding Nemo and WALL-E Featured an All-Human Cast?
What would Pixar’s WALL-E look like if it was an anime series starring human characters instead of robots? Or what about Finding Nemo set on land instead of the ocean? These two Pixar/Andrew Stanton reimaginings were found on 4chan. The Finding Nemo art (available after the jump) is credited to Andrew Kalko, but I’m not [...] [Read more]

Ellen DeGeneres Coming Back to Theaters as Mother Nature!
Ellen DeGeneres as Mother Nature? This sounds about as crazy as Jim Carrey playing God! Are we sure this isn't another sequel to Bruce Almighty? Walden Media, who used to develop the Chronicles of Narnia films, has signed DeGeneres as Mother Nature in a currently untitled comedy that they are producing. There is no real explanation behind her appearance, except this corny tidbit. The say the idea [Read more]

The Box Office in Review for 06/20/09
Third place went to Pixar's Up, which lived up to its name as it powered up the all-time animated chart. Now at $226 million, it has surpassed Wall-E and Ratatouille and now sits at #10 on the top-grossing toons list. It's still dragging just a bit behind Finding Nemo (which had $228 million at this point), and it will lose many of its 3D screens when Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs opens on July 1st, but this one is so far playing like a $300 million+ earner. I must say, if it does make it to [Read more]

From undersea to outer space, movie dads cover a lot of ground
The Animated Dad: He's overprotective. He's a little neurotic. But he'll swim through any rough waters necessary to find his little clownfish son. And that's why Marlin from Finding Nemo (pictured, voiced by Albert Brooks) is one of the most endearing cartoon movie dads ever. (Also see: Mr. Incredible from The Incredibles, a man devoted to his three kids AND saving the world.) The Crusty Dad: It's June, which isn't exactly the time of year for yuletide spirit. But don't let that stop you f [Read more]

Are we raising girls or princesses?
To stay as big and powerful as they are, has to keep profit as the priority.  Disney/ Pixar has to keep generating products (children’s movies) that are supportive of and encouraging toward a huge demographic with disposable income. This mainstream, middle-class, often white, group of Americans support patriarchy and white privilege (though often unconsciously) because, simply put, it has worked for them. This is the group of Americans that, even though most of the women of the family work [Read more]

Family gaming gets boost with 'Up'
Each character has its own special skills, and combining these skills is key to clearing each stage. Carl can use his walker to help Russell reach high places, while Russell can shimmy across narrow ledges and use his trusty pocket knife to cut vines. The pair also needs to work together to execute a handful of double-team moves. I was surprised at how well the AI performed during these situations, as it almost always managed to put itself into the right position. There were a couple of times I [Read more]

Carly and the Bull Shark
I had been looking forward to this moment ever since we watched Finding Nemo together six years ago.     The Florida I love most is the part you find underwater, be it far back in the barren black tunnels and caverns of the aquifer, or the colorful reefs of the Keys, teeming with life. The latter is where I brought Carly, too young for a scuba tank but the perfect age for a snorkel, mask and fins. [Read more]
