Must Watch: First Full Trailer for Richard Kelly's The Box!
Warner Brothers has debuted the first trailer on AOL for Richard Kelly's The Box starring Cameron Diaz, James Marsden, and Frank Langella. This is a story almost everyone is familiar with - about a box with a button that when pressed makes the owner wealthy but causes some other harm somewhere in the world. But in the hands of Richard Kelly, this story isn't that simple. This definitely looks like he's back to his Donnie Darko roots, since those who saw his second film, Southland Tales, know it was a disaster. This looks a lot creepier than I expected. And I have no clue what's going on at the end, but I want to see it.For those unfamiliar with Richard Kelly, he's the up-and-coming filmmaker who brought us Donnie Darko in 2001 and followed that up with Southland Tales in 2007. The Box is h [Read more]

Just One Night
magHeeb Issue #20: Bible Studies Just One Night A Guide to Getting Groupies Photo by Adam Krause Text by Eugene Mirman Getting groupies is not hard, but it is a nuanced game—somewhere between charades, capture the flag and drunken strip chess: It's fun, but you could get hurt and break your dick. Navigating this world of groupies can seem deceptively simple, until you get a call from a girl in Milwaukee named Mike who claims she's having your baby. Saw VI Update: Can You Handle 9 Saws?
If you're a sick kind of demented - meaning, you like the Saw franchise - then there is some medicine on the horizon for you, if fates will have it.Tobin Bell, the man behind the silky-smooth voice of calculated doom known as Jigsaw, was recently chatting with Bloody-Disgusting writer Jeff Otto. Bell said that if Saw VI (which opens on Oct. 23) does well enough, we'll be seeing a 7th chapter of the bloody-good franchise as well. In fact, as long as the franchise continues to turn a profit, it [Read more]

Imaginary playmates aid development
CHILDREN who have imaginary friends are better communicators than those who don't.Some parents worry that children having pretend pals may lead to mental illness. But a study released on www.freshscience.org yesterday found it was good for them and helped them develop. Girls were likely to play a nurturing role such as teacher with theirs, while boys tended to invent a superhero friend they could look up to. Experts say up to 65 per cent of children have imaginary friends; most are eldest or onl [Read more]

Sick of Sarah don't mind proving they can rock
Abisha Uhl is living anything but a bittersweet life.Raised in Japan, Uhl grew up wishing she could come to the states to be a famous entertainer. It was like Fievel Goes West, Uhl said. I was living on an island and I wanted to be in the entertainment business, but never really got the chance to do that. Don’t worry; it’s as bad and pointless as you feared. Like most of you, I was immediately drawn to a weird little movie called DONNIE DARKO back in 2001. It was a great amalgamation of big creative ideas, elemental sci fi, teen angst, physics and philosophy, all wrapped up in a stylish little flick. And like all things unique and beloved by movie fans, somebody went and made a cash-in sequel to appeal to the Hot Topic crowd and sell a few more Frank the Bunny sweatshirts. The universe and mytho [Read more]

The Doom Dispatch: The Ten Best Directorial Debuts of the Decade
Serenity is not only one of the best first time efforts of the decade, but the best conventional science fiction film of the decade. PERIOD! A group of outlaws hide an enemy of the state, evading the authorities and a lone operative who has no scruples in his quest for their destruction. On a cursory glance, it looks like a cheapie Western set in space, but I have no patience for cursory glances and neither should you. Did you read what you wrote about most of America still being puritans at heart? Why do you want to make this about the puritans? Why not be tollerant to the choices that puritans make? Why not allow us our own thinking and choices? Why not allow Kris his victory? Why not assume that the votes Danny was getting may have gone to Kris? They have simular styles and that seems logical. I am one of those puritans you refer to, but I believe that Adam is a serious talent that will do great! I also [Read more]

S. Darko Gives Us Bad Dates At The End Of The World
Hard to say, when the plot is mostly focused on showing us Samantha looking hot in teeny shorts or dresses. There's time travel, of course, and those blobby Abyss-looking things pop out of people's chests just like in the first movie. But it all feels very rote until this scene, which you can see here, when the world starts to end and Samantha happens to be on a really awful date. There's a fun originality to this scene, where her date's flailing efforts at making out are nearly as scary (if not [Read more]
