( fr ) Bloc Party are an English art rock/post-punk revival band. The band has been around in various guises since 2002, with names such as Superheroes of BMX, The Angel Range, Diet, and Union, before settling on Bloc Party in September 2003. There was a theory that the name is a play on block party, a name for an informal neighborhood festival, which might hire a local band as entertainment. The band has said that the name was not intended to be an allusion to the Soviet Bloc or the Canadian political party Bloc Québécois; the absence of a 'k' is purely for aesthetics.

leafar Hall of fame  I am totally addicted to their music and Uniform on a week end in the city is by far my favourite song. The lyrics are simply great. I have seen seen them live and they are also brilliant on stage. Hope i will be able to see them again very soon.

New Bloc Party - Better Than Heaven (No Age Remix) (Stereogum Premiere)
Two bands with arty punk in the blood going in two different directions, posing for a three-minute snapshot together in 2009. As previously discussed, Bloc Party are once again going full remix with their Intimacy LP, a move that's either a vote of confidence in that last batch of tunes or a grab at some cred-by-association, depending on how you view these sorts of projects and/or BP's recent work [Read more]

Bloc Party Take One Month Off To Letterman
While we in the trenches are talking about their No Age remix, Bloc Party are above ground invading late night TV with straight cuts off Intimacy. Last night at the Ed Sullivan Theatre it was One Month Off (i.e. the most they've sounded like Silent Alarm since Silent Alarm)(i.e. Banquet). Dave goofs cutely on the album art. Someone should send him My Bloody Valentine's Glider EP. Continue reading [Read more]

Intimacy Remixed, a track-for-track reinterpretation of Bloc Party's last LP, includes contributions from Armand Van Helden and No Age. While Brits can buy it 5/11, but no worldwide release date has been set, so you might as well remix the songs yourself. Alternatively, you can see Bloc Party in the flesh since they're on the road pretty much all year. Photographer Andrew Youssef took in last nigh [Read more]

New Bloc Party - One More Chance
Apropos of nothing beyond a compulsive need to be releasing material all the time, Bloc Party follow up last year's rush-release of Intimacy and this year's Intimacy Remixed with this stand-alone nugget, recorded in April with longtime BP associate Jacknife Lee and mixed by Phillipe Zdar. It's more house influenced than anything the band's done yet (check the piano's bounce, the four-to-the-floor kick), Kele still sounding like Kele, and Russell dialing down his art guitars to fit the backdrop's shift, before he dials back in to close it out like some sort of new wave/house blend. New Bloc Party Video - One More Chance
Following last week's surprise single -- like, surprise it's out, and surprise it's a house jam -- Kele and the gang deliver this video as a top-off to the one-off. It's both goofy and emotional, between Matt Tong stonefacing the corny keyboard bro, and all the lost souls hoping for one more chance, and that this time things will be different, only to retreat into a a well of tears at the realization that no, nothing will be different, there will be no more one more chances, and sometimes the best you can do is accept your solitude and take up exuberantly entertaining Bloc Party drummers with your house piano chops. Because sometimes that is life, and sometimes that's the best it's going to get. If you're lucky, maybe you'll even get the drummer to smile for a second before it's all over. [Read more]

The Winter Sounds at Mohawk
Bookmark Sun. July 12, 10 p.m. The Winter Sounds at Mohawk With its soaring multi-tracked harmonies, guitars that swing between constricted jangle and broad-as-a-barn-door hooks, and the smattering of twinkling synthesizers and occasional violin providing the “pensive” moments, Chicago-by-way-of-Athens group The Winter Sounds shoots for all anthems, all the time on its new Church Of The Haunted South—which, quite frankly, proves exhausting over a single sitting. One More Chance (Stream)
Bloc Party have flirted, since their sophomore album, A Weekend in the City, with becoming a full out dance band instead of an angular post-punk with dance-music influences, and it seems like with new single, One More Chance, they've finished the switch. The song is fueled by a house beat and keys, and the guitars are mostly there to lend muscle to the beat instead of the thrust. This isn't as bad as some of the bad songs on Intimacy, but it's not Banquet, that's for sure.  The One More Ch [Read more]
